Do you keep searching for that next epic adventure? Do you dream of trekking through the valleys and climbing over the crags of the worlds largest mountain range? Do you dream of swimming to the depths of the ocean floor just to sweep your hand across its rocky bottom? Do you dream these dreams to wake and find that the adventure is gone? No mountain for you to climb, no ocean for you to swim? So where does the adventure lie?
In Rolf Plotts book entitled Vagabonding, he stated so beautifully, "Adventure is everywhere you allow it to find you-and the first step of any exploration is to discover its potential within yourself."
We often think of adventure as a journey through the wildest unknown. A journey that has us trampling through mud slicked rock slabs, bushwhacking our way through unkempt grassy fields and forests and sleeping out under the stars atop a rocky cliff that teeters on what feels like the edge of the earth. Though yes, these experiences would prove to be quite bold adventures, they aren't the only adventures. Adventure doesn't always have to be found in the escape. The key to any daring adventure is to discover its existence within you, within your SOUL. Then, all of life becomes the adventure and there is no longer a need to go searching for it. You, existing. Your life, the adventure.
Remember that the next time you feel the need to escape. Remember the adventure that lies within every feeling, every stimulus, every thought, every decision - it is the essence of your being that triggers action. These actions engage an exploration that will take you beyond even your wildest journey. A simple handshake. A smile with a stranger. A walk. A smell. A sight. A noise. Recognize what is around you. Recognize its significance within you. How will you respond? What action will you take?
